Since 1874, the Hotel Grande Bretagne has been a point of reference of all aspects of life in Athens and Greece. A very ambitious preservation and refurbishment program was successfully executed, adding state-of-the-art facilities, two swimming pools and a luxurious spa, four restaurants, a Grand Ballroom, and numerous meeting and conference rooms. The interior design mixed French and Italian Neoclassical furniture, taking cues from archival photographs of the hotel from the late nineteenth century. Detailing throughout was inspired by the original 1843 palace, which featured fluted columns, Ionic capitals and mosaic floors. Photography by Jaimie Ardiles-Arce
