A very ambitious preservation and refurbishment program was successfully executed, adding state-of-the-art facilities, two swimming pools and a luxurious spa, four restaurants, a Grand Ballroom, and numerous meeting and conference rooms. The The Hotel interior design mixed French and Italian Neoclassical furniture, taking cues from archival photographs of the hotel from the late nineteenth century. Detailing throughout was inspired by the original 1843 palace, which featured fluted columns, Ionic capitals and mosaic floors.

Pan Pacific Seattle - Seattle, USA

When tasked with designing the 160-room hotel, which is part of a block-long mixed-use development, the hospitality interior designers decided on a minimalist scenario to reflect the property's Japanese roots - the hotel was challenged to provide a fresh approach to meet the demands of the changing Seattle market.

The design influence was from the flourishing Tokyo market, with hotels of very high design. Thus, the hotel interior design team decided to do the first International-style hotel, but at the same time make it feel comfortable for it's environment.

Exotic materials were used to make the minimalist design stand out and also complement its location. The challenge was convincing the ownership that the hospitality design was appropriate. The firm did mockups of how sections of the hotel would look, which won approval.

In the lobby, meeting rooms and other areas of the hotel, striped Zebrawood, placed horizontally, brings texture to the walls. It makes you feel like you're in a forest, a nod to the Northwest city's surrounding environment. The design team also sought to bring a sense of warmth to the property to offset the numerous cold and rainy days Seattle frequently experiences. Toward that, cream-colored Jerusalem limestone was used on the floors. Additionally, browns and earth colors dominate- Seattle being so earthy and woodsy.

Some architectural elements are used as art, such as an elliptical lobby staircase that seems to hang from the ceiling and backlighted limestone above the wall-size fireplace near the lobby lounge appears to float. Colors are muted in the guestroom, which features a 32-inch plasma-screen television and 350-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens. Bathrooms, separated from the bedroom by Shoji-style screens, have recessed sinks, oval bathtubs, glass-enclosed showers and porcelain tile floors.
